maryland state fair

The brief:

Being a school project we were required to
research a randomly selected state and
understand the state’s activities and culture.
Then create a quick logo and poster ad for
that state’s state fair.

The solution:

Starting this project was relatively easy for me as I was coming out
of a high school graphics program that taught me out to research
for a project. I used two western style typefaces to associate the
information to a state fair event. I pulled most of the event info
from previous Maryland state fair posters and ads to add realistic
detail to my poster. A less obvious grey silhouette of a ferris wheel
is in the background to accentuate the fair vibe.

Stephen King Book Covers

The brief:

Being a school project we were required to
find a book series that inspired us to remake
their covers. Each cover needed to project
the emotions of the story it was on as well as
match the other stories covers. If the covers
didn’t convey similar feelings visually the
stories wouldn’t be a series to a buyer.

The solution:

I struggled at first on this project when trying to decide how to make
the illustrations but eventually decided to just draw the aspects
that stood out to me for each story. I hand drew the cover and back
images. Then used photoshop to edit them and change their colors.
Each illustration depicts an important person, place or event in the
story it is on. I used just black, white and red as colors to tie the
series together on top of the similar illustration styles and
matching layouts.
